ubin survey highlights
Oct-Dec 04 | Jan-Mar 05 | Apr-Jun 05 | Jul-Nov 05 About 20 people dropped by per month to share their thoughts about ubin. Thank you! Every comment can make a difference. Here's highlights of what they shared: Pulau Ubin is the best classroom that we can give to our children. Tens of thousands of our children have visited Ubin. Re-develop Ubin into an urban area or a high-class residential homes? That is taking away one of the most important educational programs from our schools system! I hope Pulau Ubin will remain as it is now. But I would really hope to have some water sports (Kayaking, Jet ski etc) around the Island. maybe diving in the quarry. more nature trail. but ultimately i hope that it will come under the care of national parks. making it something like the taman negera of singapore.anywae this is wat we hav left. Destroying it is easy. bring it back is difficult, we shouldn't be in a rush to develop it. One of the few (if not only) place in singapore where i can go and it hasn't changed since the 1st time i went about 20 years ago. Singapore is a small island. There are little activities that one can engaged in that is not man made. Nor any natural activities that can last for a whole day. I hope that all those ugly barriers on the coast side of ubin could be removed. I wish there is less development on Ubin. Nature at your doorstep. A good place to relax for a small cost. Pray you will not be a Sentosa. An experience of natural nature and not man-made modern day 'nature' & 'fun'. Love the bumboat rides to Ubin - don't remove that. Keep things as it is. It is bad enough that Bin Kiang School was torn down...(it should be used) as a landmark for youngsters these days who do not appreciate the good schools they were sent to. Now they totally have no chance to compare the old and new. What a real shame. Its rustic charm. It reminds me of the kind of people we used to have for neighbours during my childhood days. A reminder of what life was and can be - simple. U don't have to go to Nepal or Tibet or Thailand to seek a peaceful sanctuary -- Ubin has it all (of course not during the weekends!) Just leave it as it is. Of course this may be wishful thinking as Singapore does not have a track record of leaving things as they are! do the the survey? here with more details of the results so far |
