How the current Plans came about

Aug 2000: Public consultation on Concept Plan 2001 through the formation of two focus groups on the planning dilemnas

Dec 2000: The focus groups submitted their final report

Apr-May 2001: The Draft Concept Plan 2001 was exhibited

May 2001: public dialogue held on the Concept Plan 2001

Jul-Oct 2002: Review of the Master Plan 2003 with public consultation on the Draft Parks & Waterbodies Plan and Identity Plan through the formation of three Subject Groups and other channels of consultation and feedback.

Pulau Ubin was featured in the Identity Plan which highlighted 15 areas in Singapore grouped into four clusters:
1. Old World Charm: Balestier, Tanjong Katong, Jalan Besar, Joo Chiat / East Coast Road
2. Urban Villages:Anak Bukit, Jalan Leban, Thomson Village, Springleaf and Coronation areas
3. Southern Ridges & Hillside Villages: Morse Road and Gillman Village areas
4. Rustic Coast: Punggol Point/ Coney island, Changi Village, Pasir Ris and Pulau Ubin (with a plan to bring in new activities and attractions to enhance the rustic coastal charm, and connect the four coast areas by water taxi so that they can be enjoyed individually or together as a whole)

Feb-Aug 2003: Draft Master Plan was developed with ideas from the public on the Parks & Waterbodies Plan and Identity Plan. The Draft Master Plan was exhibited on a regional basis for further public comments.

Dec 2003: Master Plan 2003 gazettted together with Planning Strategies for the various areas
