A LIVELY MONKEY

A little lively attraction has been recently added to Ubin. It came in the form of an agile, mischievous Long Tailed Macaque.

It hangs around the shops at the town centre and feeds on tit-bits that locals and visitors offer him.

Some say he was chased from the group when the alpha male found out he was making amorous advances to the females of the group.

Others say he is a released pet, brought to the island from someone from the mainland.

I tend to believe the latter as he seems too tame to be a wild monkey.

Recently he has been raiding restaurant kitchens (after they've closed) and causing some damage by eating the raw eggs etc and generally messing up the place.

Some silly restaurant owners have resorted to catapulting it - a really stupid gesture as though it knows it was doing wrong - as far as he was concerned he was looking for food.

As long as people keep feeding it, it will hang around people.

NPARKS have been informed and we are waiting for them to take the appropriate action.

Ria's comment: Share any other stories or photos of this lively creature on the focus ubin forum.
