A "Keramat" was officially opened on Sunday the 12th December 2004. Basically "Keramat" in Malay means shrine, there are no religions connotations or denomination.

On the opening day I saw Free thinkers, Buddhist, Hindus and Muslims visiting to pay their respects and asked for prosperity and good health.

It's popular with business and business people and behind many hotels you'll find similar small shrines.

LOCATION: You'll find this shrine under a beautiful huge fig tree behind Ubin First Stop restaurant. Pay a visit even if its to take a closer look at this magnificent fig tree that was partially damaged by lighting.

There's a big land around the shrine that would make an ideal butterfly garden. If you want to help with the digging, email me at grant@singapore.com. It's a win-win situation, you work up a good sweat, lose calories and create something positive like a beautiful garden.

Cheers
Grant
