What
I find unique about Pulau Ubin |
My
hopes for Pulau Ubin |
| 1 |
|
|
| 2 |
environment
and the kampong houses. |
stay
as it is. |
| 3 |
Unique
kampong environment that is close to nature |
To
have its natural beauty restored and kept free from excessive human
influence and change |
| 4 |
The
uniqueness of Ubin is the way it always draws visitors back to it.
It is a great escape from the hustle and bustle of hectic life on
the mainland. A few hours spent in the natural environment refreshes
one. The myriad things I can do on Ubin are obvious. There are always
places to explore and the scenery is just aesthetic. |
My
hope is that it will remain as it is. Some kind of help must be extended
to the locals, perhaps in bed and breakfast concept, seafood farms,
and uses of disused quarries. |

P.Ubin
is an open museum. It showcases many aspects of our lives dating back
to days before Thomas Stamford Raffles came.
Eg, it teaches us how our food sources have evolved from simple survival
eating to our Passion for food today - think of Chilly crabs, Attap
chee & mussels to name a few.
P.Ubin also means free Health Therapy from destressing to "Eye cleansing"
- no I don't mean cuci mata! I mean looking at the green enviroment
- to good hard exercise.
These are just a few examples. So pls keep P.Ubin in it's original
state - what is destroyed cannot be rebuilt with our Billions of $$.
Look at our Rebuilt-Chinatown!
Best regards, |
To
convert it to an open air museum cum class room for All to learn &
experience w/o actually having to "study" |
| 6 |
The
laid-back life. The tranquility and fresh air in the early morning.
The quietness. |
Hope
to see it as it is for as long as possible. |
| 7 |
It's
name. |
That
it's name would eventually change into something funkier. |
| 8 |
The
abundant nature, the kampung atmosphere, the laid-back messiness,
the respite from urban life. |
That
the island will not be 'developed' but be wisely conserved as part
of Singapore's heritage. Both visitors and residents should be able
to pursue their lives and activities on the island without causing
losses or damage to its natural environment. And also that Chek Jawa
be preserved infinitely. |
| 9 |
|
|
| 10 |
The
kampung houses, slow pace of life, unspoilt 'hills' etc. |
Please
do not go and concrete up everything (roads, houses etc); nor create
"instant" modern entertainment structures. We civilians will live
to regret it if the government go clone Pulau Ubin into another failed
project i.e. Sentosa. |
| 11 |
Fresh
air, wild animals, forest, chek jawa, marine life, back to nature.....
Endliess list... |
It's
1 of the last rural place where we can have a close encounter with
nature. Pls DO NOT develop it. I DONT WANT TO BE "LOCKED" IN A CONCRETE
JUNGLE. Pls preserve it as much as possible, in the most natural way. |
| 12 |
It's
laid back-ness. You can't find that atmosphere in the busy Singapore
main city. Over there it's almost soul healing, revival after the
hectic days in Singapore. |
I
hope that it will stay as it is, no more government intervention,
trying to make it a 'better' place by removing all the things that
makes Ubin, well, Ubin. Like livestocks, without it, Ubin just isn't
the same anymore. |
| 13 |
A
quiet get-away from the main island. And, far from most modern vehicles.
And, the food. |
Safer
passage for pedestrian/ hikers. Too many "learning" cyclists on the
road recently. The obvious solution of adding a horn will definitely
destroy the remaining quietness. Something need to be done before
any major accidents. |
| 14 |
The
ability to still bring some form of outdoor nature experience to our
future generations living in concrete blocks. |
All
current development process must stop. No more building of anymore
roads or fences or pointless holiday resorts. |
| 15 |
old
sg style |
to
remain natural |
| 16 |
It
has a rich biodiversity and it is a natural habitat for many valuable
flora and fauna.I like its tranquillity, fresh air and the greenary
also. |
Remain
as it is for as long as possible. |
| 17 |
It's
unique differnce from the mainland, with the natural to relax to and
enjoy the slow pace of life there. The people there are friendly and
nice. Thought they are years away from our time here, they always
have a smile on their face. |
I
hope that it will stay the way it is today. With so many things to
see and do, which can never be done on mainland, like get close to
the natural and enjoy it. Hope that there will be chalets around but
taking into consideration of not destorying the place. So that people
can go there and enjoy themselves for more then a day |
| 18 |
laid
backness, it's like going back into the past era. serene and tranquil.
good getaway place and yet not too commercialize. love the kampongness
of the place, the stray dogs and other animals that roam. something
you can't find on mainland singapore which is really sad. |
keep
ubin as it is, upgrade if need be but do not turn it into another
commercialize touristy place. retain its rustic old charm of ubin
and try not to put too many man made things in there... boardwalk?
bane or boon? i'm not sure but i'm not for it cos it makes the place
too man made again. it's sterile enough on mainland so try to keep
ubin as 'old'as it can be. dun try to 'modernise' the place too much...
it's like the only 'old' place you can get.... i always feel like
i'm walking back in time when i go ubin... keep it that way please! |
| 19 |
Singapore
is already a very artificial city, lack so much character and just
looks the same like anyway in any place. If Ubin is developed, we
will lose a national heritage. Singaporeans can enjoy a kampong atmosphere,
who are we to say the only way we can enjoy ourselves is through parks,
golf courses and urban dwellings? In the end, who would want to come
to Singapore in the future? |
STOP
ALL DEVELOPMENTS!!!!! So many countries preserve their landmarks.
Why can't we? |
| 20 |
As
European visitor, Pulau Ubin is the most interesting place in Singapore
I've been in. I've to admit I find the mainland country artificially
boring and lack of character, since most of what I see here can be
found at home, but not kampong lifestyle. In Europe, we preserve our
heritage strongly. What attracts people to our place is not modernity
and urbanism, but our unique tradition and way of life. Developing
Pulau Ubin for even tourism purposes will be in my view, a big waste
of time and money. Why not use the money to develop the arts or invest
in welfare, or rebuild old heritage buildings on other parts of mainland
besides orchard? |
If
you are creative and fun enough, you would know you should not despise
it and to keep it untouched. I heard that there was once a school
on the island, it's a shame it was torn down and not used as a landmark
cos I did not get a chance to see it. |
| 21 |
|
|
| 22 |
where
else can you find an untouched "treasure" island? |
I
do hope that ubin will Not be the next east coast park. *hint hint* |
| 23 |
The
natural environment, rare and extinct eco system, a place for educating
the young without travelling overseas. |
That
there will be control visitors and activities within the island and
the locals who stays there are poor but enjoys simple life. |
| 24 |
Most
easily accessible island (besides Sentosa).
Has a wide natural diversity in terms of natural wildlife.
Has a certain rustic charm. |
That
water sports around the island will be further promoted.
I also hope that barriers placed to keep out illegal immigrants etc...
could be placed further out into the sea (by 3-4 m) at certain points
so as to give kayakers access to beaches. |
| 25 |
It's
rustic atmosphere. |
Stay
as it is. |
