What
I find unique about Pulau Ubin |
My
hopes for Pulau Ubin |
| 1 |
Where
else in Singapore can one find a place untouched by the fast pace
of development? Going to Ubin is getting away from the rush of life
in mainland Singapore into fresh air and relaxation. I love the bumboat
ride to Ubin, with the sea air blowing into my face, and having to
'jump' accross the boats sometimes. I love the trees and village atmosphere. |
Please
leave it as it is, especially Chek Jawa. |

i
hope nobody will try to 'develop' pulau ubin further |

It's
rustic laid back charm. The diverse landscape of mangrove, plantation,
secondary forest, natural coastal habitats (almost all gone on Singapore
mainland) etc. |
To
be preserved in it's entirety as much as possible. Over developing
the island is the surest way to kill it's original charm. |
| 5 |
the
rich and diverse flora and fauna |
to
keep it intact as a place of environmental admiration |
| 6 |
so
relaxing and away from the hustle of Singapore life |
preserving
the rural feel, without commercialisation or developing it too much |

Where
can you find the peace and serenity of biking or walking through dirt
trails in the forest and listen to the insects chirping and birds
calling.
Problem: why is there a need for another campsite near the main jetty
with most of the original vegetation uprooted? Instead, on the barren
land are puny little scrubs and trees. |
I
hoped that people are able to understand nature more and respect it.
Without understanding, they will never learn and care for the environment.
Start young.
An incident to ponder:
I was with my friends waiting for the boatride back to the mainland
when I witnessed a young father teaching his son a twisted natural
history lesson. Having spotted crabs on the exposed sea rocks next
to the jetty and telling them that crabs are scavengers. He allowed
and encouraged his son to feed the crabs by throwing his chips and
tissue paper to them adding to the huge amount of litter already present
by these inconsiderate people. How can thee young ever learn when
the adults lead them down the wrong road.
My firnds did chided the father for his bad example but he was nonchalent
and proud that he brought his family on a nature trip.
I wonder, do they allow others to throw trash in their own backyard? |
