What Pulau Ubin means to me: Apr 05
What I find unique about Pulau Ubin My hopes for Pulau Ubin
1 a laid back part of Singapore just to enjoy!! stay as it is
2 The kampong houses, the wayang stage, the community centre, everything! It's so different from the mainland. To be a historical site in Singapore. No chalets please as people may make Ubin dirty, etc.
3 I went camping in Ubin many years ago and it was great fun just walking to the campsite. The air was fresh, the scenery was good. Basically, all the trees and plants and whatever natural inhabitants that you can find is great. Once in a while I would just take a bumboat there just to experience nature at its best. I hope that Pulau Ubin will remain as it was many years ago. Grow more trees there, let the undergrowth grom out of hand....that is what Ubin is all about.
4 Pulau Ubin has kept itself "preserved" over the years and does not have the modern developments the Singapore posesses. I hope that it will remain as it is. All the money in the world cannot recover it after it has been demolished. It reflects our heritage and should be kept for future generations.
5 A part of Singapore's history that is priceless.
Nature's own integtrated resort.
Will remain as a living museum for the future generations.
Hope that it does not become a concrete jungle or neon lit island.
6 The wildlife, the serenity, the peace. Make it be a nature reserve

8 The laid back atmosphere and the opportunity to explore. Enough with the upgrades. Enough resorts, and urban looking buildings like OBS and the NPCC campsite. They stick out like a sore thumb. If people are not happy with the facilities being too basic, they can always go to Sentosa.
9 the nice rustic laid back atmosphere not found on mainland Singapore. I hope that the boardwalk & tower will NOT be build as I suspect much of the eco systems in Chek Jawa will be destroyed or damaged by the construction.
10 its unique environment ahich is different from mainland spore..kampong lifestyle..natural surroundings.. its natural environment will be continued to be preserved..as it is a good place n cheaper way for sporeans to escape from the hectic life on mainland n enjoy a day in a calm natural landscape..more sports activities held on and around the waters of the island eg.hiking n kayaking..
11 Simple and kampong life style, fresh air and beautiful nature scenes.
12 p.ubin looked like typical singapore mainland on the northern side(khatib bongsu, tanjong irau)...the only thing is,there are still kampongs there. to stay as it is..no developement....no np trail improvement...just leave it as it is forever...
13 It has a nice "kampung" feeling that you can't find on mainland S'pore anymore. Being an off shore island, it offers different flora and fauna in their natural environment. Chek Jawa is another distinctively unique part of Ubin that you can replicate anywhere else. I hope that Ubin can be left the way it is - the last outpost of natural beauty that reminds pple of S'pore 40 years ago.
14 the peacefulness, fresh air, outdoor life, environment i hope that it will stay as it is
15 Ubin is home to many many plants and animals species. I fall in love with this place the first time i step on it since June 2000

I have camp in ubin for 7 times during these years. It also have natural landscape such as meandearing river which is a very good teaching aid to our geog student. I have been to chek Java in year 2003 and the palce is simply fantastic. One can throw away the hectic city life and basks in the serinity of the island. How many of the young singaporean have a chance to experience it? It is simply a fun and enjoyable experience for one to step into ubin.

In the night, the island shine under the moonlight. This is something we cannot see in the city as our streets are all lit with electricity. On ubin, one can realise that moon was the "sun" at night for the people in the past. It gave the place another kind of experience that one can never have in the city.
The place should not have too many man-made structures in the forest. Its a great feeling for explorers and adventurers to explre the insland and stay close to nature. The mud tracks should be remain as no one can really have a taste of outdoor life if they do not get dirty.

Ubin is a rainforest with nothing at first. So I hope it remain as nothing so that it will still be a spot for adventurers to enjoy it.
16 I can say that Ubin is "uniquely Singapore" as compared to other man-made features of our island nation. A juxtaposition to our hectic life concrete jungle of Singapore mainland, she is a beauty waiting for us to explore. Ubin must not become the 2nd East coast park or Sentosa. Man-made features should only come in when there is a real need taking into consideration the fact that a trip to ubin is about nature and not about to a resort island.
