What Pulau Ubin means to me: Dec 04
www.focusubin.org
What I find unique or special about Pulau Ubin: My hopes for Pulau Ubin:
1 Pulau Ubin's geography serves many unique roles in the urbanisation of Singapore. It is first and foremost a countryside that we can all escape to. It is also a living community of the way of life that our parents used to live in, a unique record in our history of nation building.

Most importantly, with its extensive fauna, flora, culture and geography, Pulau Ubin is the best classroom that we can give to our children.

I think not enough credit has been given to Pulau Ubin in its role in our education process. Tens of thousands of our children have visited Ubin, brought by their school teachers, community leaders as well as their parents. At Ubin, they learn science, history, geography, sports, the rugged life, community work, nature, culture. All in, it is a much richer experience for our precious young. Re-develop Ubin into an urban area or a high-class residential homes? That is taking away one of the most important educational programs from our schools system! Keep Pulau Ub
Preserve Pulau Ubin's unique way of life, community, culture, animals, birds, marine life, forests, mangroves, quarries, dirt tracks, farms.... the list goes on. It is the last real kampong that we have.

This island is a real place in a world that is getting glitsy and unreal everyday. Ubin - nothing pretentious, nothing fake, yet priceless and so precious. Don't destroy it. Man cannot re-create it. Trust me!
2 There is a unique blend of culture and nature on the island. Remains as a relatively rural, untouched island
3 I find Pulau Ubin a totally different place from the main island (singapore).

It is like stepping into the Past, where sinagpore was once filled with Kampongs. Very relaxing.Every visit to Pulau Ubin is a different experience for me.
I hope Pulau Ubin will remain as it is now. But I would really hope to have some water sports (Kayaking, Jet ski etc) around the Island.

5 The people of the island are very friendly and their ways of living is very simple and easy.

I love the abundance of the many species of plants and animal and insects.

The trails around the island are also very easily accessible and very unlikely to get lost.
For it to remain as it is.

and not be destroyed by irresponsible visitors.
6 no Roads, unspoilt,a relic of olden singapore,a uniquely singapore place, old charms, rustic, tranquil,a get away place .the boat trip is d best.where else in singapore do u need to cross d sea to go to other than sentosa which is so commercialised.
ubin is defintally a place worth protecting.we live in such a stressful enviroment and so concrete and man-made.even the parks.that we need somewhere that is totally natural to go to relax.ubin is defintally the place.it's inaccessibility help her maintain her health and unleashes her charm and mystery to the concrete man living on mainland singapore. further more it is a good place to train the kids.they juz can't go hm when they go there for camping .haha.We need ubin more than she need us.
to be conserved.meaning clearing of rubbishes, improving the place in a sense that more ppl can go but the impact of human must be controlled.maybe diving in the quarry.more nature trail.but ultimately i hope that it will come under the care of national parks.making it something like the taman negera of singapore.anywae this is wat we hav left.Destorying it is easy.bring it back is difficult ,we shouldn't be in a rush to develop it.look at all the land housing that we have in spore.20 units can be changed to a hdb plock housing 200 house hold.we must solve this problem creatively.not vlindly wifout thinking and evaulation.the heart must be considered.
7 It's just so different from the city that we grow up in and are so used to. There's a feel of serenity on the island, and everything seems innocent and pure and simply charming. To remain as is, with its lovely rustic charm so that our kids will have a chance to see a natural part of Singapore.
8 close to nature...unspolit village lifestyle...not affected by development sustainable development so as increase the standard of living of the villages there while maintaining the wide diversity of nature's creations.
9 Many exotic plants and animals can be found at Pulau Ubin. I hope that Pulau ubin will remain unspoil.

11 The mangroves and the rustic feel of the place, makes one feels at home. I hope that Pulau Ubin can be protected just like the nature reserves in Singapore. A place that offers a quiet getaway from the main land.
12 A lot of variety in plants, v tranquil place compared to main land, To remain as it is=)
13 the only unspoilt place in singapore will remain the same forever!
14 It the the only past of singapore that appears to be untouched by times. One of the few (if not only) place in singapore where i can go and it hasn't changed since the 1st time i went about 20 years ago. It will stay exactly the same for many more years to come
15 beautiful chek jawa and its inhabitants; variety of tracks flanked by greenery for trekking and cycling it would remained and be preserved as it is; get visitors registered if possible.
16 It is the last relatively untouched island in Singapore. It is as natural as any part of Singapore can get, with fun nature activities to do. Singapore is a small island. There are little activities that one can engaged in that is not man made. Nor any natural activities that can last for a whole day. In ubin, one can birdwatch, cycle, pick fruits, camp out. I have tried all other islands in Singapore but they are too small and with less available activities even if they do have good nature diversity. I guess Ubin has a good balance of both for wannabe explorer like me. I hope that all those ugly barriers on the coast side of ubin could be removed. I wish there is less development on Ubin... as more and more places get developed, Ubin is slowly and surely losing its natural flavour. Leave Ubin as it is.
17 It's a place away from the crowded and noisy city.A place to find flora and fauna that used to be common but now rare on the main island. It used to be an undisturbed and peaceful place until the throngs of people came to do more harm to the already fast dwindling natural places left. Hope that it could be preserved in its natural state as far as possible so that our kids could have a chance to visit and love it in years to come.

19 The animals living in Chek Jawa I hope that people who visit would walk with care and not kill any of the animals for fun. I think that the government should close Chek Jawa for a few years for all the animals and plants to grow back again.
20 I hope that Ubin will be spared from the rapid urbanisation.
21 very natural spot. kampung life style & unique. don't do any "developing works" please cause this will spoil its naturality. just leave it as it is please...
